CASCAIS was for centuries a fishing village, and was later the summer holiday retreat of royalty and Portuguese nobility, which contributes to its urban and tourism development.

The region of Cascais has a Mediterranean climate with dry and cool summers due to the currents of the Atlantic Ocean. The rainfall winters have temperatures of around 6 to 15 degrees celsius. This climate combined with the great fishing had a big impact to the local cuisine which is mainly composed of fish and seafood.
